Rajab is one of the four sacred months in the Islamic calendar, making much of its importance in this calendar. This month has been tagged the “Month of Allah.” It offers Muslims a unique scope for thinking on religious matters, increasing devotion, and turning away from worldly affairs.

What is Rajab in Islam?
Rajab is the seventh month of the Islamic Luna calendar. This is one of the four sacred months that the Quran refers to:
Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah from the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred." Surah At-Tawbah: 9:36)
The last word of the month comes from the Arabic root “Rajaba,” which is used to signify “to respect” or honor”. Therefore, it shows that this month is sanctified by Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.

Rajab is an important month in terms historical events happened in this holy month.
1. 27th of Rajab – Isra and Miraj
This is the night of Isra and Miraj when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had his miraculous Night Journey (Isra) and Ascension (Miraj). On this very night, Allah gave the five important daily prayers to the Muslims.
2. Islamic Events during Rajab
– The Battle of Tabuk took place in Rajab, which reminds us of steadiness and sacrifice.
– Imam Ali (RA) was born on 13 Rajab, and so much of the Muslims celebrate the day as an honorable day and a reflective one.
3. First Night of Rajab
The first night of Rajab is a night of blessings. Muslims pray and perform duas for forgiveness because it’s the beginning of the sacred days spent worshipping.
Rajab Practices for Muslims
Following are the recommended practices for Muslims in the month of Rajab:
1. Fasting in Rajab
There is no such strict obligation about fasting, but it is highly recommended to perform it during the month of Rajab. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) narrated:
"Do fast during the sacred months."(Abu Dawood)
The fasting on the first, 15th, and 27th of Rajab are also very blessed. It is also a sunnah to perform forgiveness and mercy-seeking by fasting. It has been stated in a hadith:
He who spends one day of Rajab fasting Allah will remove him from the Hellfire through a distance of a year’s travel. (Al-Bayhaqi)
2. Supplication and Dua for Rajab month
Muslims have set of supplications during the holy month of Rajab. Among them, here is the Rajab month dua:
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي رَجَبَ وَشَعْبَانَ وَبَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَانَ.
O Allah, bless us in Rajab and Sha’ban and help us reach Ramadan. (Musnad Ahmad)
3. Zakat and Virtues
Much is given to charities during Rajab. Good deeds in this month signify the essence of the religion and tend to unite society as one unit.
Rajab in Hadith
According to Hadiths, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) narrated the importance of the month of Rajab in the following words
“Rajab is The month of Allah, Sha’ban is my month, and Ramadan is the month of my Ummah.”(Al-Suyuti)
